Dalhousie Castle Hotel, hotel in Bonnyrigg

On acres of wooded parkland, this fascinating 13th-century fortress is on the banks of the River Esk.

It’s a beautiful historic castle, what’s not to like?! The dungeon dining was fantastic. Breakfast was also delicious and in a beautiful setting. It’s outside the city so you need a taxi but totally worth it!

Nice neighbourhood, a bit of a walk away from the main attractions but close to some nice, less touristy restaurants and shop. Infinite supply of marshmallows. Rooms are nice and well appointed. Feels homey.

Hotel Du Vin Edinburgh, hotel in Bonnyrigg

In Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, this Hotel Du Vin has uniquely styled bedrooms in a former city asylum. At the hotel’s heart is a French Bistro, serving produce from the Lothian region.

Everything! I just wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed in a junior suite with a tub in bump out windows overlooking the rooftops and street below. No issue with privacy. The bathroom with the shower was gorgeous. Great location. Glad I chose to be off the Royal Mile by maybe 1-2 blocks. Not far at all. Still felt like I was on the excitement of it all, but at the same time calmer, if that makes sense. If I go again, I’ll definitely stay here.

Very large king room. Shower head was great. Didn't know there was a large indoor pool/sauna/spa when I booked, and they were wonderful. Large variety at breakfast. £18 if not prebooked, £12 if prebooked. Katie, Donald, and David at the front desk were very helpful with all details and a wealth of local information and suggestions for attractions/dining. It is one block off The Royal Mile, quiet at night for good sleep.

Good quiet location but not much in Bonnyrigg or the surrounding towns. Handy for Edinburgh and Lothian coastal resorts. For us must see was nearby Roslin Chapel. Only nuisance was traffic on bypass at the nearest junctions.

We booked for 1 night at the Castle and we were really looking forward to it, only to find out that the restaurant at the hotel was 'fully booked'. They said the orangery was not in function at evening and the dungeon was too small to feed everyone at the hotel!! Disgrace, if you cannot accommodate dinner for all guest you should not offer any hotel rooms. This place is middle of nowhere and you shouldn't have to book in advance to eat at the hotel restaurant. Spa dated dated and not very hot water in pool or sauna.

Good suite, comfortable room. Atmospheric historic building with creaky stairs and rambling corridors, old-style furnishings. High quality dining experience in a unique dungeon setting. Good range of breakfast choices in the light Orangerie with views across the pasture and woods. Very polite and helpful staff. Lovely location with long woodland walks. Easy to get to Edinburgh by park and ride or train.

We absolutely loved our stay at Dalhousie. The building itself is beautiful and filled with so much history. Every member of staff we came in contact with was friendly and couldn't do enough for us. John the night porter very kindly gave us a tour around the hotel one night which was brilliant. Location from Edinburgh was perfect and our room was fab! Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful castle, lovely location and surrounding countryside. Warm welcome, the 2 rooms we booked were next door to each other as requested. Food I had was delicious but the food my vegetarian friend had wasn't ideal (see below). Appeared very Covid-19 compliant and safe. Lots of lovely, characterful rooms around the hotel you could relax in after dinner (library room etc.)

The castle was beautiful, location near Edinburgh perfect for our car trip around Scotland. We had a beautiful, large bedroom in the tower which was beyond expectations! We had our dinner in the dungeon, a wonderful experience, the food was 5 star as was the service. Breakfast in the Orangerie topped off an absolutely perfect stay!

The grounds and the hotel itself are beautiful. The entire outside is picturesque. The staff was helpful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The rooms in the castle are beautiful, the dungeon restaurant is super cool and the food overall was very good. The free spa is nice, but can get crowded. Close enough to city center.

The room was exquisite as were the grounds. The included spa trip was very nice though you have to pay extra for the massages etc (not too surprising). We loved the archery and falconry though you book separately with the company to attend (not through the hotel).
